— To promote the welfare of domestic animals, to provide shelter and care (including a spay/neuter program) and prevent suffering for those animals in need and to ensure that all animals in the Shelter are either spayed or neutered before they are adopted. To this end we operate a no-kill animal shelter (for dogs and cats); only in very specific circumstances (suffering, terminal illness and/or dangerous aggressive behaviour) will an animal be euthanized.

— A non-profit volunteer run organization located in Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada. - Sandy Lake Dog Rescue
— Sandy Lake is an isolated reserve in northwestern Ontario, located approximately 8 hours northwest of Thunder Bay. It is only accessible by airplane and by ice road for 6 weeks during January and February. There are no vets in Sandy Lake and as a result there is a large dog overpopulation problem. Most dogs in Sandy Lake live outdoors year round, even when the temperature drops to minus 40 degrees. Puppies are born under porches, in woodsheds or anywhere the mother can find shelter. As the number of strays increase they are trapped and shot. Sandy Lake Dog Rescue was created as an alternative to shooting. The goal of the rescue is to find homes for as many of these amazing dogs as possible.
